Woodworking can be a great deal of fun if you are a hobbyist. It can be very rewarding if you are a professional. Experience with a Cabinet making shop?
I am thinking about opening a cabinet making shop, I work for a company doing weatherzitation, before this I did residential interior finish carpentry work, I am very detailed about woodwork, I know I need to educate more about types of wood, veneer wood for cabinets and many other details to have a variety of cabinet finishes, any one with input about this plan would be of help, is it a good plan?

It IS a (fairly) good plan, but unfortunately your timing is wrong. My cousin is a skilled carpenter and contractor and he’s simply not getting that many jobs even though he is well-known for his skills. People in general simply don’t have extra money to spend on luxuries like remodeling their kitchens or buying fancy cabinets in this economy. And there’s also the factor that you would be going into competition with large furniture makers who mass-produce cabinets – as a small firm, it’s going to be hard to compete with the lower prices offered by bigger companies for similar products.

Woodworking projects for kids should be comparatively simple but also be useful, say, a bird table with a little house on it. Or a dog kennel or a stool. They could make a set of draughts (checkers), a board and a box to put the pieces in. A pencil box with a sliding top, a letter box or a herbs and spices rack.
