What’s a good woodworking project to spend some time on?
I’ve got a lot of time on my hands now that summer is here, and I really want to make an awesome project in the shop. I might make a chess board, so if anyone has designs, that’s groovy. Any ideas are welcome!
I wouldn’t start with a chess board…unless you’re set on it. For all it’s simplicity it’s actually one of the hardest thing to make. This is because it’s pretty damn dangerous to be dealing with parts that small. Additionally, any defects in dimensioning whatsoever will show up in the final product. You’ll need to have a perfectly matching light or dark filler to fill in the gaps when you’re done. Additionally, clamping that up is pretty involved.
I’d recommend something larger to start with because, contrary to expectations, larger projects actually hide newbie defects a lot more. Be sure to use push sticks on any table saw work and do not put your fingers or hands between the fence and the blade.
You can always have a local shop cut up ply parts for you as good plywood parts require an especially large table saw set up.
I actually had a lot of luck just using the guide in the source as it is pretty thorough going over the basics. There’s a lot of things you just can’t imagine ahead of time that’ll make the project a lot more frustrating without some sort of concise guide.
Have fun, and be safe above all…never work late and never drink beer while you’re working on it. Except when you get to the staining/finishing phase
What is good web site that offers free woodworking designs and plans that are easy to follow ?

Which should I make: porch swing or tree swing?
Whichever one I make it will be hanging from a tree. The tree swing would be really easy, but the porch swing I could make in woodwork and get a decent grade. I need a project for woodwork anyway, but I don’t know which one would be more fun (to swing on)? Or should I make both?
ooh ooh!
I’d say the porch swing because you would get a better grade it’s bigger and fits more people *hint hint*. Make it real perdy with vines and flowers engraved (burned?) into it. And then when it’s done you can swing on it singing Taylor Swift songs.
Or make both!

Free Baby Crib Woodworking Plans?
Does ANYONE know where I can find, on the internet, FREE woodworking plans for a transitional baby crib…you know, the kind that you can convert from crib to toddler bed to double bed? Or would someone have the plans downloaded in html or plain text format that they could provide a link to me for free? My daughter is pregnant and her father is insisting on building her the crib instead of buying it for her, as a means of saving money…sigh. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Well, thank you for your answer, but I already checked that site and they don’t carry the free plan I’m looking for. I was just wondering if anybody on here would happen to have access to a plan that they may have downloaded and could possibly send to me or give me a link to. But I do appreciate your answer.
